Accessibility

People dealing with an immigration process should not also have to fight the website. This page states what we aim for, what we have done, and what we know is still missing.

This policy is awaiting professional review

The wording below describes accurately how this website handles information, but it has not yet been approved by a qualified adviser. Treat it as a working draft rather than as final terms, and tell us if anything here does not match your expectations.

We build this site to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is a standard, not a slogan: it sets measurable requirements for contrast, keyboard operation, focus, and how errors are communicated.

  • Every colour pair in the design system is checked against the AA thresholds, in its resting, hover and focus states, and the measured ratios are recorded alongside the palette.
  • The whole site is operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator on everything focusable and a skip-to-content link on every page.
  • Form errors are announced in a summary that takes focus, and each entry links to the field it refers to. An error is never signalled by colour alone.
  • Interactive targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels, and the layout holds without horizontal scrolling down to a 320-pixel screen.
  • Animation is brief and purposeful, and is switched off entirely when your device asks for reduced motion.

This site has not yet been audited by an independent accessibility specialist, and it has not been tested end to end with every major screen reader. We are stating that plainly rather than claiming a conformance level we have not verified.

Some pages linked from the site are still being written, and a third-party map, if you choose to load it, is only as accessible as its provider makes it.

If something here blocks you, please tell us what you were trying to do, which page you were on, and what you use to browse. That is usually enough for us to reproduce it. Use the contact form, and we will reply with a route that works for you in the meantime.
